The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new seasonal flu vaccine from Moderna that uses mRNA technology, the drugmaker announced.

The vaccine, called mFlusiva, was approved for older adults. In trials, it was found to be about 27% more effective than a standard flu shot.
The agency had initially refused to even review the application but reversed course after a public outcry.
