Don't Build RAG for Your AI's Memory. Build a Forgetting Machine.

Giving my AI story characters perfect memory made them worse they remembered everything and felt fake. RAG is the wrong tool for narrative. The fix is a recursive summarization "forgetting machine" that keeps recent details and blurs the rest, the way brains do.
