Bessent spoke with CNBC's "Squawk Box" about AI safety concerns and this week's summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump.
The move was an escalation of President Trump’s showdown with the White House press corps after he moved to bar journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
In a joint statement, CNN, MS NOW and Politico argued that President Trump’s decision to bar them from the White House grounds violates their First Amendment rights.
The decision comes as CNN, MS NOW and Politico said they are suing Trump to overturn his new ban of those three media outlets from the White House.
